As Graduation is fast approaching I would like to share I always believe when it comes to work.
So, here it goes
There was a newly hired nurse in a prestigious hospital. Being new in the said hospital, the nurse felt a little intimidated with her colleagues because they themselves were bragging about their accomplishments and experiences in the field.
One day, she was assigned to assist one major operation. It was her first actual experience of assisting an operation. Her task was to audit the surgical instruments before and after the operation.
Before the operation, informed that he would work with a new staff, the doctor sarcastically said to her “I hope you can keep up with me.” with a grin. The nurse felt more intimidated yet more determined to do her job.
After long hours of the operation the nurse made the final count of the instruments and notice that one pair of forceps (a medicine tool for grasping an object in place) is missing.
“We are missing a pair of forceps doc.” Said the nurse.
“How? You probably made a mistake.” The doctor look irritated.
“It can’t be, I recounted already doc, and there is really on pair missing.”
“Are you saying to my face that the best doctor in this hospital has made a    mistake?”
“No, I’m just worried that during the operation we left it inside the body of the patient”
“So are you saying that we search inside the body of the patient. Ok let’s have a vote”
Everybody in the room voted not to search for inside the patient’s body except for the new nurse.
The doctor approached the nurse and reached something from his pocket. It was the forceps, she thought was missing.
“You will do good, not just in this hospital but anywhere you go. Good job!”
They both smiled and the nurse was relieved of all her worries and gain confidence to work in the hospital.

From this hospital I learned three values of professionalism.

Integrity, the value of standing for you principles. It’s having the heart to pursue what you know is right.
The nurse could’ve agreed not search for the missing forceps to gain a good relationship among her colleagues or avoid criticisms, but she stood up for what she know is right and insisted to recover the instrument.

As nurse it’s her duty to make sure that the operation was carried out smoothly and the patient’s safety is not compromised.
Integrity is what makes a person a  professional.
Passion, in this world make sure to put love in everything you do. This is a force that drives people to enjoy their job and share it with other people.

The nurse in the story overcome the judging eyes of her colleagues for her passion as a nurse. It’s not what other people will say or look at you, but for her it is how she do her job that defines her.
Passion is what makes a job a profession.
Quality, is the byproduct of your integrity and passion. It is the essence of any job. It makes your work worthy for you and the people around you. Any person who has passion and integrity on their profession, will always produce quality work.

The nurse in the story, as the doctor said, would do good in any where she goes, and she did a good job.
Quality is the core of professionalism.
